2/14 Time of Year

Mads!

2/14 is approaching y’all and I am so excited. There is something to this superficial holiday I think is so charming and if you would, I would like to invite you to see why! Disclaimer: yours truly is a very single college woman just looking for opportunities to celebrate life.

People hurt us. Heartbreak happens.

We all cry in the car to “Champagne Problems” by Taylor Swift. I am sorry for those of you who have a distaste for this heavily commercialized holiday, if you have been hurt or your heart is in the messy part of healing, you are not alone. I beg you to not harden your heart but to look around and see where love still lives all around you. Valentine’s day is one of those times where we have a choice to be cynical or we can choose to be tender. I agree the whole idea of inflicting social obligation to buy flowers and chocolate is silly but isn’t that kind of what love is? Sacrificing time, money, and maybe a teensy bit of trying to look tough to show the people we care about the place they hold in our hearts.

Love comes in different forms

There are so many ways to love others, you do not have to be in a romantic relationship to participate! (This could be a whole different blog post about enjoying your place in life- not merely surviving it to get to the other side but truly living abundantly through each breath you take. This moment is precious, this season is rare. Eat chocolate with your best friends and watch chick flicks, I am confident you won’t regret it!) All of us are aching to be told that we are wanted, seen, and loved. We all want to be important to someone, especially in this season of social distance. So many are painfully lonely and a simple expression of love and friendship could literally save a life. Even if you cannot be with the people you love or hang out with your friends, send them a text, a homemade card, do a zoom movie or game night. Use Valentine’s day as an excuse to be intentional. Show people you are there!

Love is beautiful!

I know this is a silly excuse for a holiday with its cheesy cards and blinding shades of red, but I’m going to let this candy-coated day remind me to give thanks for the good and beautiful people in my life and I hope you will too! May you have the sweetest day Mads ♡
