Hey HP!
For today’s post, I wanted to tell you about my experience with completing my first Yoga with Adrienne 30 day yoga challenge. If you aren’t familiar, Yoga with Adrienne is a Youtube channel with-would you believe it- a yoga teacher named Adrienne. I’ve been coming to this channel for years, doing one of her yoga videos here and there every once and awhile. Every year, she creates a 30 day challenge (usually at the start of the new year) where yogis from every level of experience can come together and have a judgement free environment once a day to destress and take time for themselves. Adrienne’s theme this year for her challenge was called Home, and is centered around ‘coming home’ and finding your way back to yourself. In December over winter break, my college bestie Hailey called me and told me she was thinking of starting the 30 day challenge when we came back to school, and I told her I wanted in! We started January 13th 2020, and took time out of our day every single day until February 13th, 2020 to do yoga together.
Honestly, I am so glad we did this challenge together, and I really think you would love this, Hope. Even on days where Hailey and I were tired and stressed out of our minds, we still made an effort to show up on the mat, which according to Adrienne, is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. I believe it is so important for everyone to take time out of their normally busy schedule and make an effort to listen to their body, push it to its limits, and discover new moves and shapes you never thought you’d be able to make. Taking this time to be quiet and kind to yourself is one of the best forms of self love in my opinion. Adrienne’s videos range from about 15-30 minutes on average, so the time commitment isn’t too bad either, which makes it more attainable for even busy college students to make it work. Along this journey, Hailey and I learned a lot of our strengths and weaknesses. For instance, Hailey doesn’t like the balance heavy videos, I don’t believe Downward Dog is a resting pose (that pose is a workout in itself!), and Hailey loves Warrior 2 pose (like, a lot). It was such a nice time to be able to relax and support each other through this journey together.
One of my favorite parts of doing this challenge with Hailey was the times we had to get creative with where we did our yoga. I’m pretty sure our roommates were less than thrilled every time we came into one of our rooms and said we would be sprawling out to do yoga for 30 minutes sometimes at 10:00 PM. (Love you Meghan and Jesina!) Some days, we had to do yoga in our dorm room lounge, the laundry room, and at
one point, we almost went in the creepy basement because the lounges were closed (thankfully we decided against that one). The point is, even when it seemed like we had nowhere to go to actually do the yoga or we really didn’t feel like showing up, we still were committed to finding somewhere to do it and spending that time for ourselves to relax. All in all, I’m really grateful that I got to do this challenge with one of my closest friends, and I believe Yoga with Adrienne is one of the most positive, uplifting, and supportive Youtube channels that everyone should watch at least once. So to achieve the highest level of cheesiness, I’m going to close this post out like Adrienne closes all her videos, “Thumb to the third eye and we say, Namaste.”
